Well, the Orange Headed Wife and I have returned from our relaxing Honeymoon. The hurricane didn't even touch us, and it rained a total of 3 times. Each of those times we happened to be inside anyway, so it worked out. I shall provide a picture summary of what we did most of the time below:

Mmm, palm trees.
You can't see it, but there is most definitely a cold drink somewhere near that leg.

The hotel makes you pay to use computers with the internet. I thought that was sorta lame, so we didn't use the internet much (around 30 minutes total). Either way, I'm pretty sure the connection at the hotel was faster than mine at home. So, anyway, time to find some faster and possibly cheaper internet.

This Saturday there were supposed to be thunderstorms. Well, as they drew near, people were saying that there might be tornadoes. I watched the storm front come in and pass over me. No tornadoes, just very angry looking swirling clouds. I went inside, only to be greeted by the sound of something pelting on my roof.

And hence, I created a video of hail. I recommend watching it. It's at least a bit amusing. Also, check out this video of the hail sound.

When it was over, we ran out to see what got owned by the hail. There were some medium sized branches in the road, the peeling paint on my garage got stripped off and its decaying roof now looks even more abused. Also, my house now looks like some big monster sneezed on it while eating a salad. But the main victim were these:

My poor hostas! :(
They used to big and bushy.

Pretty much every plant I liked get shredded to bits. I hear hostas are rather hearty, so perhaps they'll be fine.

So, I've been thinking recently. I use my credit card like cash. I don't carry balances as I see that as a very bad idea. One advantage of using a credit card, is you are forced to see this huge lump sum at the end of every month. It makes me stop and say, "Hey! how the heck did I do that?"

Why don't I use a check card you ask? Well, check cards tweak me out. With credit cards, when someone steals my number, who cares? It's not my money, the credit card company will sort it out. If someone gets my check card number, I am immediately affected. Suddenly, I need to go beg the bank to give me my money back. Depending how long the bank takes to fix it, bills could start bouncing, credit gets hurt. Bad things all because you didn't use a credit card.

Anyway, it occurred to me that credit card companies make much money charging retailers for charging me. So, there are rewards cards, most you can get free, why wouldn't you get one? Sure it's a piddly amount like 1% back. But who cares? It's money for me. Does anyone have one? I'm looking right now.

At plumbing that is. Maybe not at squishing walking mushrooms.

I've finished far too much plumbing now. I Fixed the drain pipe going to my kitchen sink, the drain baskets in the sink and replaced the faucet. I had to replace the faucet because it magically began to leak as soon as I fixed the drain. It also looked nasty as it was rusting away.

What? You think I'm going to write about what I did. Heck no! Queue pictures.

Yeah, fixed pipes. Don't mind the slant.
Don't try to saw through galvanized steel unless you actually have to. It's harder than it looks. Yes, I do think this up to code. No, I wouldn't care to have to inspected.

Crappy Faucet
Mr. Roommate demonstrates the nastified old faucet.

Shiny and, therefore, better faucet
The Orange Headed One demonstrates the obvious advantages of a shiny, new faucet. For example, it's shiny.

In conclusion, the area in the vicinity of the kitchen sink had not less than 4 different leaks. All of which have, in theory, been fixed.

...Or, how I spend my time learning plumbing.

So, what's better then trying to improve a house you own? That's right, trying to maintain its current state. A few weeks ago, my laundry tub drain pipe, which my washing machine drains into, was spraying water everywhere. It only took a day of wrenching, hurting myself, and saws-all'ing to fix it. That and inhaling PVC primer, but that stuff is good.

Yeah, I fixed that. Used the camera flash for extra grossness.

Glad to be done with plumbing, I discovered that, of course, my kitchen sink drain also leaks through the floor. I hear that water and houses don't mix well, so I figured I'd take a look. How do you do that you ask? By ripping out pieces of the wall, that's how. Well, I discovered something disturbing: Disconnected vent pipe.

I prefer to vent my sewer gas directly into my home. That's the way I roll.

Anyway, I haven't fixed that problem yet, but I'm working on it.

Ok, so I got my updated car insurance. It had increased to 800 for 6 months. That seemed crazy to me. I got it worked down to 550ish, but it's still pretty high. And that's with a house insurance bonus AND no accidents or tickets, ever. What do you guys pay for insurance for 6 months, and to who?

Aha!
Brianbot lent us his new satellite receiver to try out as he can't use it just yet due to his south facing disability. So, I flashed it with a shiny new firmware and now it does magical things. Like this:
Hax Compliments of Brianbot

It's balanced on a pumpkin and a grill... Like this:
Satellite, Pumpkin, Grill
I'm not touching that thing till it falls over. It is hard to point those things, especially when a pumpkin is involved.

I remember Brianbot lent me his power meter thing that let you see how many watts something was using(I hope I gave it back to him). I'm in need of that again. I wonder if a multimeter can tell you that for AC... Anyway I've decided that old computers are the way to go for servers. They practically don't use any power at all. Or so it seems, based off of how little they heat up my room.

Well, I fixed my mailbox today. Previously it had this feature where it would not open wide enough to get the mail out without scraping the crap out of your hand. Now, it grudgingly opens to reveal the many wonderful credit card opportunities and bills I receive everyday. All with far less hand scraping!

More importantly my roommate was browsing random optical illusions and such on stumble and came across a neat illusion. "Why is it neat?" you ask. "Because, not only is it an illusion, it is an illusion you can do yourself!" I would reply.

Here's the result. Sadly I only have a monochrome laser printer, but the thing still works. Sorry about the crappy video, but you'll get the idea.

This is going on top of the TV. I'll probably have a sense of unease every time I watch TV now.
